:anime: Awarding the American Anime Awards

A tad late on the news, but regardless, the much-balleyhoed American Anime Awards have come and gone, leaving a number of winners in its wake:

Best Actor
Vic Mignogna (Fullmetal Alchemist, Macross)

Best Actress
Mary Elizabeth (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG)

Best Actor in a Comedy
Dave Wittenberg (Zatch Bell)

Best Actress in a Comedy
Debi Derriberry (Zatch Bell)

Best Cast
Fullmetal Alchemist

Best DVD Package Design
Fullmetal Alchemist

Best Anime Theme Song
Rewrite (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Best Comedy Anime
FLCL

Best Anime Feature
Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children

Best Short Series
FLCL

Best Long Series
Fullmetal Alchemist

Best Manga
Fruits Basket

Lifetime Achievement Award
Peter Fernandez

Not too bad, though I'm surprised to see that Akira was upstaged by the pretty, apparently flawed (by critical standards) Advent Children, and that Zatch Bell cleaned the comedy acting honors. On the flip side, at least most of the winners came from 2006 and not earlier, and I was a little close to 50% right on the choices (the dark horse pick for Best Short Series...well, the outcome was obvious). And lastly, the Lifetime Achievement Award was well deserving, especially considering the role he played in making anime accessible in the eyes of an unknowing public. Hopefully I can take a look at the actual ceremony to see how it all turned out.
