Now Showing… |
While this isn't the Free/Low-Cost Anime Pick of the Month--I have something else planned for that, but I guess you can consider this a semi-one --I couldn't let the opportunity slip by to mention this year's Global Shinkai Day festivities at Crunchyroll! This year's will be a little different than most, as Makoto Shinkai's most recent work, Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below, will be showing over the three-day weekend! It's a different kind of film from him, as well, both in scope and in feel, as it follows a young girl's journey through a fantastical underworld.
It's Ghibli-like in its visuals, but only to a certain extent, as it ultimately has its own identity, and as excellent as it all is, one's mileage may vary overall and in comparison with other of Shinkai's works. Personally, I could say it's his "least", but when the rest of your resume is Voices of a Distant Star, The place promised in our early days (which was covered not too long ago, here), and 5 centimeters per second, where else do you go?! (And Children Who Chase Lost Voices' still a great movie!)
That film and all of those other features will be available on Crunchyroll starting today on Friday, March 15th and into Sunday, March 17th, all for free and for everyone to see. Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below will also be available with Spanish and Portuguese Subtitles, too. And as an extra bonus on my part, catch this jaw-dropping trailer of the maestro's upcoming film, The Garden of Words (Kotonoha no Niwa)!
